🚚 From Visitor to Neighbor. Connecting With Local Communities as a Camper

Short-term stays (Couple of weeks)

  • Support the local economy. Eat local, promote businesses and campgrounds on social, and leave helpful reviews.
  • Look for small ways to give back. Ask locals how to help, donate to community fridges, or join a one-off volunteer event.

Longer-term stays

  • Act like residents. Find local communities via Reddit and Instagram, join rec leagues, attend meetups, and vote where we’re based.
  • Initiating connections can feel awkward, especially when explaining our camper life.

Meeting our neighbors

  • Mixed experiences. Some connections happen easily, others not at all, and it’s hard to read interest.
  • When it clicks, it really clicks. We’ve built great neighbor relationships, and even short stays can turn into meaningful conversations.
